FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING
As part of the Controller’s Office, Financial Accounting is responsible for ensuring valid and complete accounting for the University in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Financial Accounting works with all areas of the organization to ensure timely and accurate processing and reporting of financial transactions. In addition, Financial Accounting has frequent contact with departmental budget managers to assist with review of financial data and implementation of accounting policies and practices.
In coordination with other areas of Financial Affairs, Financial Accounting is responsible for accounting and reporting on:
- Accounts Receivable
- Asset Management
- Cash
- Gifts and Endowments
- Investments
- Payroll and Benefits
Other functions performed by Financial Accounting include:
- Preparing the University’s financial statements
- Coordinating financial audits with internal and external auditors
- General Ledger maintenance
- Preparing and distributing departmental financial reports
- Budget Manager training
- Documentation of internal controls
