Attention Faculty and Staff

Dell announced the voluntary recall of approximately 4.1 million batteries used in notebook computers worldwide. The cells in these batteries may overheat and pose a fire risk.

Laptops affected by this recall include models shipped between April 1st, 2004 and July 18th, 2006.
* Latitude D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810;
* Inspiron 6000, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200, 9300, 500m, 510m, 600m, 6400, E1505, 700m, 710m, 9400, E1705
* Dell Precision M20, M60, M70 and M90 mobile workstations
* XPS, XPS Gen2, XPS M170, and XPS M1710

The batteries will have "DELL" printed on it and one of the following: "Made in Japan," or "Made in China," or "Battery cell made in Japan Assembled in China."

Not all batteries from these models are at risk, please visit https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com to determine if your battery needs to be replaced.

In the event that your battery is affected by this issue, please shut down the system, remove the battery and operate the system using the AC power adapter.

To immediately pursue a replacement battery from Dell, please visit https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com and follow the instructions to request a replacement. You will be working directly with Dell for this process.

In an effort to ease the inconvenience associated with this recall, Information Services is working with Dell to get a quantity of replacement batteries on campus. We will inform you when the batteries arrive and will make them available to those that need them.
