Attention Faculty and Staff

Apple announced today that it would recall 1.4 million laptop batteries that were manufactured by Sony.  This follows on the coat-tails of Dell computer's recent recall of 4.1 million laptop batteries also manufactured by Sony.

Affected batteries may overheat and cause burns or start a fire if they are not replaced. Following is information about how to get a replacement battery for Dell or Apple laptops.

Dell

Visit https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/ and follow the instructions.

Note: In our last communication about this issue, we were working with Dell to get a quantity of batteries to make it easier to exchange them.  Bulk field replacements are being issued to the military, police, healthcare patient services and critical services first.  It would be a few weeks before Depaul could receive a bulk battery shipment.  Due to this, Information Services now recommends that customers work with Dell directly to replace affected batteries as soon as possible.  This will provide the fastest method of battery replacement and IS will no longer pursue a bulk battery shipment.

Apple

Visit http://support.apple.com/batteryprogram and follow the instructions.

Note: Apple's webservers have been very busy today so if you cannot get through, please try again later.
